Mussel shells which are abundant in the coastal municipalities of Samar are made into functional products and picture frames.  Recently the Balugo Fishermen Multi-Purpose Cooperative invested in this venture. 

Production of rattan functional product is a potential business in the province, especially in the municipalities of Marabut and Hinabangan which are known to be producers of rattan and other vines categorized as minor forest products.

The Department of Trade and Industry Samar Provincial Office is manned by professionals who delivers the Mission and thrusts of the department to its service area which covers 25 municipalities and one city.  Under its mandate, the department is tasked to regulate the business atmosphere of the province. 

However, it is also its mandate to develop and promote  SMEs thru its industry development program in the countryside.  Currently, the department is focused in assisting the different local government units in their one-town, own-product (OTOP) program which covers different agri and aqua-marine-based food products, bags and mats made of indigenous materials and tourism.

Under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge, Ruthelma S. Samonte, the province is moving toward conquering the world thru this virtual vehicle.
